Having gone through many evolutions in its lifetime, Snakes Alive is currently a website dedicated to offering high quality Ball Pythons (Python regius).
Snakes Alive is known for and takes pride in
two things:
Firstly we pride ourselves in the
standards we keep and the quality of our reptiles we produce and sell.
So much so, that the staff and owners of other specialist reptile shops
buy their stock from us!
Secondly, we pride ourselves in educating and
encouraging new people (young and old) to get into the hobby of keeping
and breeding reptiles.
HISTORY
Snakes Alive was the first e-commerce and information based reptile website in South Africa. It was the
idea of Doug Anderson (then a scholar) who with the help of his late father (a computer genius) managed to turn his hobby of breeding exotic reptiles into a fully fledged online retail business specialising in exotic reptiles. The website grew and the demand for a retail store
emerged, and it eventually became part of two pet shop outlets specialising in exotic reptiles.
BACKGROUND
Doug has always had a love for all things creepy crawly, and since Std 4 has bred many exotic reptiles including many ratsnakes, kingsnakes, milksnakes, boas, pythons, chameleons, dragons
and leopard geckos, as well as many species of tarantulas, scorpions and turtles. It was only in Std 8 that he decided to turn his hobby into a business and start supplying
pet shops and the public with exotic reptiles.
Two decades later Doug has decided to focus on
breeding the many morphs of Ball Pythons available and hopes to contribute to the hobby by one day creating his own morphs of Ball Pythons.
FACILITIES
The Snakes Alive breeding facility currently
houses a modest collection of Ball Pythons which we intend on expanding
on in the future.
Our facility is temperature controlled to enable
optimal living and breeding conditions for our Ball Pythons. Our cages
are cleaned regularly with the best veterinary products available to
ensure optimal health conditions. Our snakes are checked by a specialist
vet and treated to prevent worms, parasites and other health concerns regularly.
We believe in "what you put in, you get out," and so we breed our own rats and mice to feed to our Ball Pythons. We feed
them regularly to keep them fat and healthy. Our rats and mice are cleaned to ensure optimal health and breeding, and they are fed the best food on the market to ensure the same.
